Hermanos Mentorship Program
The Hermanos Program is one of the cornerstones that keeps our community strong, the heart of Alianza Latina: our very own mentorship program. The Hermanos program pairs interested freshman with an upperclassman, who serves as a mentor and friend providing guidance and involving their Hermanito or Hermanita in the AL community. The Hermanos Committee hosts several social events in the Fall to introduce the new Freshman to the AL community before they are eventually paired with a mentor in the Spring semester. Hermanos members enjoy more free or low cost social events, professional training, and even get to know Boston through service to the community.
Feel free to ask them anything and everything!
The Hermanos Committee is charged with fostering relationships between newly arrived Freshmen and the existing Latinx community at BU through service to Boston. The Committee is responsible for reaching out to community partners, and planning both our community service and Hermanos social calendars. The committee members are open to any questions you may have! Feel free to chat them up at the next AL event and be sure to read more about the Hermanos Committee Members below.
Community Outreach Director
Hello! My name is Grace Ochoa, I am a junior in the College of Arts and Science majoring in Math and Computer Science. I am from South Plainfield, New Jersey and a proud Ecuadorian! I am Alianza Latina’s Community Outreach Director and I cannot wait to meet the newest members of this year’s Hermanos Program! Big/little reveal is my favorite day of the year. Besides Alianza Latina, I am very involved on campus. You can catch me dancing with Sabor Latino or actively involved in the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers! Don't be scared to say hi whenever you see me :). If you have any questions about the Hermanos Program I am your person!
Hi!! My name is Jhoely Duque, I’m a sophomore in the College of Arts and Science majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Public Health and on the Pre-Medical track. I am from Mahopac, NY and my family is originally from Ecuador. The Hermanos Program has truly helped me find my niche within BU and I am so grateful for the familia I have gotten. I hope to be able to give back to Hermanos what Hermanos has given to me. Outside of Alianza Latina, I am a First-Generation Peer Mentor, am a member of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students, a Telehealth Epilepsy Volunteer Team Navigator at BMC, and will be a My Life My Story Interviewer at Brigham! If you ever need any pre-med advice or anything outside of that don’t hesitate to reach out!!

Hi y’all! My name is Sammie Casas. I am a sophomore in the College of Arts and Science and am currently pursuing a major in International Relations and a minor in Spanish. I am from the best place on earth aka Texas, more specifically Dallas but my family is from Mexico. Joining the Hermanos program for me was a way to give back to the program that gave me my family. I really wanted to be apart of AL in any way I could and through the Hermanos program seemed like the perfect fit. Outside of AL, I work A LOT, come grab a coffee from me at the Tatte on Mass Ave. or visit me at the Student Activities office. I also currently sit on the senate at BU so if you would like to know more about student government at BU feel free to talk me!
Hello!! My name is Gabby Patterson, I am a sophomore currently in the College of General Studies and will be transitioning into Sargent to major in Human Physiology. I am from Lynn Massachusetts, which is about 30 minutes north of Boston next to Salem. My mom’s side of the family is from the Dominican Republic and my dad’s side is from Spain and Italy. Hermanos means the world to me it’s how I met the people I am closest with in AL today. I look forward to making all of your experiences in AL the best it can be. Outside of AL I am a peer mentor and a deans host for CGS, feel free to ask me any questions about becoming one and how the process works. Bonus! I am also a barista at Starbucks :)
KLOK! My name is Gaby Bussiere, I’m currently a sophomore in the College of General Studies and will be transitioning into the College of Arts and Sciences to major in Biology on the Pre-Med Track (& hopefully minor in Spanish!) I'm from Clinton, CT living in the Bronx, NY. I joined the Hermanos Committee because I love finding the little things that tie people together.
